Ellen Quits ‘American Idol’  Ellen DeGeneres said via Twitter yesterday she won’t be returning as a judge on “American Idol” next season. The talk-show host joined “Idol” in its ninth season, but said she decided a couple of months ago not to return for its upcoming 10th. “It was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings,” she said. “I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.” Simon Cowell left the show at the end of last season, leading to rampant speculation about who might take over for him. Now the show will have to replace two judges. Jennifer Lopez is the latest celebrity rumored to be talking to Fox about joining the show as a judge.

Drew Carey Loses 70 Pounds Drew Carey says he has lost 70 pounds. “I just got sick of being fat,” the 52-year-old entertainer said at the 2010 CBS Summer Press Tour Party in Beverly Hills. He credited a cardio program for his new figure.

Stars Line Up For Cancer Benefit   Kelly Ripa, Ashley Greene, Donna Karan, Ariel Foxman and InStyle will serve as hosts of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund’s upcoming New York fundraiser. Also expected to attend this weekend’s 13th annual Super Saturday 13 benefit in Water Mill are Beth Stern, Christy Turlington, Edie Falco, Gayle King, Hilary Rhoda, Ingrid Vandebosch, Kelly Klein, Kelly Rutherford, Lorraine Bracco, Mark Feuerstein, Michelle Trachtenberg, Mariska Hargitay, Matthew Settle, Russell Simmons, Adrienne Bailon, Alexandra Wentworth and George Stephanopoulos. The daylong fundraiser features a one-of-a-kind designer garage sale, kids’ carnival and activities, a raffle and entertainment.

America Ferrera Talks ‘The Dry Land’  For thousands of vets, the war doesn’t end when they come home. Nearly a third suffers from post traumatic stress disorder. America Ferrera hopes her movie “The Dry Land” inspires vets who suffer from the problem to get help. She says the response from vets and their families has been “overwhelmingly positive.” She says they thank her for bringing to light a subject that few people want to talk about. “The Dry Land” opens in select cities today.

NASCAR, DirecTV Execs To Go ‘Undercover’   Executives from NASCAR, DirecTV, Chiquita Brands International and Great Wolf Resorts are to appear in Season 2 of the reality series “Undercover Boss.” The show features some of the nation’s top executives “hitting the front lines for an unfiltered look” inside their own companies. The second season debuts September 26th.

Sheen Expected Back To Work Next Week  Charlie Sheen is expected to start work next week on Season 8 of “Two and a Half Men,” the sitcom’s executive producer said. Sheen’s domestic troubles with his wife, trip to rehab and negotiations regarding “Men” have kept the actor in the media headlines since late last year. However, executive producer Chuck Lorre said Sheen is ready to return to work when production begins next week.

Chris Klein Prolongs Rehab Stay   Chris Klein’s publicist says the actor has decided to stay in rehab longer than the 30 days that he initially signed up. Klein voluntarily entered Cirque Lodge in Utah following two DUI arrests in California. The date of his expected release was not disclosed.

Gabourey Sidibe In Showtime Series  “Precious” star Gabourey Sidibe has nabbed a co-starring role in Showtime’s “The Big C.” The comedy-drama stars Laura Linney as a schoolteacher confronting a terminal-cancer diagnosis. Sidibe plays a smart-alec student. “The Big C” debuts August 16th.

Sara Gilbert Comes Out  Former “Roseanne” star Sara Gilbert came out during a Wednesday press conference at the Television Critics Association in Los Angeles. The actress and executive producer/co-host of upcoming chat show “The Talk” has two children with TV producer Allison Adler, but has declined to discuss her private life in the past. Gilbert will co-host “The Talk” with Sharon Osbourne, Leah Remini, Holly Robinson Peete, Marissa Jaret Winokur, and Julie Chen. Gilbert says signing on to the series, which will cover mothering and parenting, sealed her decision to go public about being gay.

Clooney’s Girlfriend Implicated In Prostitution Scandal   George Clooney’s girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis has been implicated in a sex and drugs scandal after an escort testified Canalis snorted cocaine at a nightclub linked to an alleged high-class prostitution ring. Two Milan clubs, Hollywood and The Club, allegedly allowed rich clients to enjoy sexual favors from escorts while taking drugs. In court documents released this week, a French escort said she saw numerous models and stars taking cocaine at the nightclubs, including former showgirl Canalis. The evidence was part of an investigation which saw five people arrested earlier this week and both clubs closed down. Canalis was not dating Clooney at the time she allegedly visited the club.

Mark Wahlberg Gets Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame  Remember Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch? They’re long gone, but Mark Wahlberg has made one heckuva name for himself as an actor since those “Good Vibrations” days 20 years ago. Wahlberg, 39, was presented with a star yesterday on Hollywood Boulevard’s Walk of Fame. Will Ferrell, who stars with Wahlberg in the action-comedy “The Other Guys” being released this week, was on hand for the ceremony.

Timberlake’s William Rast To Launch At Target  William Rast, the fashion line by Justin Timberlake and his childhood friend Trace Ayala, has a new partner with Target. The retailer announced that a William Rast collection, including denim, outerwear and sportswear for men and women, would launch in December and be available for a month. Target has had a steady stream of limited-edition partnerships with top-level designers, including Zac Posen, Jean Paul Gaultier, Rodarte and Proenza Schouler.

Mandy Moore Joins Nothing But Nets Campaign 
Mandy Moore is joining the United Nations in its quest to wipe out malaria with nets. Moore is participating in the Nothing But Nets campaign, which distributes nets treated with insecticide to 15 African countries. Moore will host a chat on Facebook August 12th to discuss the campaign and how people can help.

Natasha Bedingfield Preps Third Album  Natasha Bedingfield is says usually an artist’s second album is the tough one to make, but she got through that and is ready to release the third one. Bedingfield got married recently but she says the new album will not be about marriage. She says she wanted to touch on themes that were bigger than her. The album “Strip Me” comes out in November. The first single, “Touch,” is a dance song that’s out now.

Judge Denies Foxy’s Bid For Protection   A New York judge has denied Foxy Brown’s request for a restraining order against a neighbor who has an order of protection against her. Brown was arrested last week for allegedly violating the restraining order Arlene Raymond brought against her three years ago after Foxy assaulted her with a BlackBerry. Brown was accused of screaming expletives at Raymond, as well as flashing her buttocks at her. Brown went to court in Brooklyn this week to ask for a restraining order against Raymond. Brown’s bid was swiftly denied, with the judge telling the rapper, “Walk the other direction.”

Get Married At Ozzfest   You can now get married at Ozzfest. The “Unholy Matrimony” package includes admission for the bride and groom and eight guests. Ozzfest MC Big Dave, who is an ordained minister, will conduct the ceremony. The package includes an Ozzfest cake and champagne toast, a backstage tour, access to the VIP lounge, tour shirts, posters and other goodies. The couple must secure a marriage license. The Black Crowes Dish The Dirt The Black Crowes promise to dish the dirt on their past in an upcoming series of webcasts. The band will release one webcast per day on www.BlackCrowes.com beginning August 3rd, the same day they release the double album “Croweology.” The webisodes will cover things like singer Chris Robinson’s arrest, the relationship between Chris and his brother Rich, whether the band really spent a million dollars to make an album, and the wild night in the studio during the “Amorica” sessions.

Bono’s Injury Costs Insurance Firm $17.5 Million   Bono’s back injury and emergency surgery have reportedly left one insurance firm holding the bag for about $17.5 million. According to the U.K.’s Sun, a firm called Robertson Taylor is responsible for the rocker’s medical costs. The U2 frontman slipped a disk in his back while rehearsing for a North American leg of the band’s epic “360°” tour, forcing the group to cancel 16 dates.

Soundgarden Announce Pre-Lollapalooza Gig   Soundgarden is slated to reunite and perform at this year’s Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 8th, and the band has planned a pre-show warm-up across town at the Vic Theatre. The concert is open only to members of Soundgarden World on the band’s website. Member of Soundgarden World will be entered into a drawing to be eligible to win a chance to buy tickets to the show.

MJ Docs Won’t Be Charged In His Death  Seven doctors who treated Michael Jackson will not be charged in the singer’s death. However, this does not include Jackson’s personal doctor, Conrad Murray, who has been charged and pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter. The other physicians were under scrutiny as part of an investigation launched by California’s Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement. A preliminary hearing in the Jackson manslaughter case is slated for August and Murray faces a sentence of up to four years in jail.

Marc Anthony Announces U.S. Tour  Kicking off his Latin American tour yesterday, Marc Anthony announced plans for a brief tour of the United States. Anthony will kick off the tour at Madison Square Garden in his native New York on September 10th. The tour will then take him to Washington, D.C., two dates in Miami, and a show in Orlando, Atlantic City, and Chicago, where he’s currently set to wrap up on October 2nd. The tour is in support of Anthony’s last album, “Iconos.”

Justin Bieber, Bill Clinton To Receive World Leadership Awards  Usher’s New Look Foundation is holding its first World Leadership Awards, which will honor individuals and organizations that have shown leadership in youth services. Justin Bieber is among the recipients of the Global Youth Leadership Award. Former president Bill Clinton will receive the Service Legacy Award at the event, which is set to be held in Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center on August 6th. Usher, Ciara, and Bieber are set to perform.
