Celebrity News Global Box Office Nears $30 Billion In ‘09 Global movie ticket sales hit $29.9 billion last year, up 7.6% from 2008. The Motion Picture Association of America also said the number of digital 3D screens worldwide tripled in 2009 to 8,989. Twenty films were released in 3D last year, accounting for 4% of all films released. But 3D screenings of those films accounted for an 11% total of the box office, the MPAA said. Theater owners like that. They can charge more for a film in 3D, often around $3.50 more in some locations, which increases overall revenue. The number of films released by U.S. companies has declined over the past three years, and in 2009 it dropped 12 to 558 from 633 the year before.
Corey Haim Found Dead In California Actor Corey Haim has died of a suspected drug overdose. He was 38. Haim died at 2:15 a.m. yesterday at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office said. Haim collapsed in the bedroom of his mother’s apartment and four prescription bottles were found nearby, law enforcement sources tell TMZ. Corey had reportedly been sick the last few days with flu-like symptoms. The medications recovered, however, were not related to his illness, sources say. No illicit drugs were found in the apartment. Haim got out of bed just before 1 a.m. and collapsed in front of his mother. She called 911 and Corey was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:15 AM. Corey’s mom told authorities he had been battling prescription drug addiction for years.
Robert De Niro To Play Vince Lombardi In Movie Robert De Niro is set to play Vince Lombardi in an upcoming movie. ESPN announced De Niro has agreed to play the Hall of Fame coach in a film it is developing with Andell Entertainment and the NFL. “Lombardi” will chronicle the years the famous coach transformed the Green Bay Packers from the NFL’s worst team to league champions. It is tentatively scheduled to be released in 2012, during the weekend between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl.
‘Mad Men’ Inspires New Barbie Line “Mad Men” has inspired a new line of Barbie dolls that will hit stores this summer. Mattel has teamed up with the show’s producers to design four Barbie Collector Mad Men dolls, based on characters played by Jon Hamm, January Jones, Christina Hendricks and John Slattery. The new Barbies will mark the first licensed doll line in the Barbie Fashion Model Collection.
Michael C. Hall Nearing End Of Chemo Sessions “Dexter” star Michael C. Hall will finish his long and grueling cancer treatment with a chemotherapy session next week. Hall has secretly been battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, only revealing his illness to the world shortly before he collected his first ever Golden Globe award in January. Hall says he’s winning his fight with cancer and is close to the end of his battle, telling Us Weekly, “I’m great on the health front. I’ve had my second to last treatment and there’s one more to go on March 17th.”
Christie Brinkley Auctions Off Wedding Gown Christie Brinkley is selling the white Armani skirt suit she wore for her 1996 wedding to ex-husband Peter Cook. The former supermodel split from the businessman in 2008 over claims he was addicted to porn. She later filed for divorce when it emerged he had an affair with his teenage assistant in 2004. Brinkley is getting rid of her wedding outfit, along with other garments and accessories, via an Internet auction that benefits the American Red Cross. The auction at Clothesoffourback.org lists the outfit with a starting price of $400. But you better hurry – the auction ends today.

Eric Dane & Rebecca Gayheart’s Baby Name Revealed Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart spent some private time getting to know their newborn daughter before revealing the little one’s name. Now they tell People magazine their bundle of joy is named Billie Beatrice. The couple welcomed their daughter earlier this month. Dane had said his wife wanted to “wait to see [the baby]” before picking a name. “You want to make sure that the name sticks.”
Nicolas Cage Sued For Breaking Rolls Royce Lease Nicolas Cage is being sued for allegedly breaking the lease on two pricey Rolls Royce cars. Cage signed a 60-month lease agreement for a 1964 Rolls Royce SCIII in 2007. The monthly lease payment was $7,663.02; the car was valued at $550,000. Four months later, Cage leased a 2002 Rolls Royce Corniche. The 60-month lease had payments of $3,630.71; the car was worth $245,000. Cage turned in the cars last year in the midst of his ongoing financial trouble. However, the lease wasn’t over and the leasing company had to sell both cars. Now they’re suing Cage for the money they lost by selling the wheels. The company wants about $240,000.

‘Idol’s’ Big Mike Makes Big Tears Michael “Big Mike” Lynche had ‘em cryin’ last night on “American Idol.” Lynche’s performance of “This Woman’s Work” had Kara DioGuardi in tears and the other judges slobbering all over themselves. Big Mike performed last among the eight male semifinalists last night and emerged as the star of the show.
OK Go Starts Own Label On the heels of their viral video sensation “This Too Shall Pass,” OK Go has announced they are splitting from EMI Music and forming their own Paracadute label. Paracadute will oversee the distribution and promotion functions for the band, effective April 1st. OK Go will kick off a tour in support of their new album, “Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky,” on April 13th in Salt Lake City.
Thomas, Etheridge Support Water Initiative Melissa Etheridge and Rob Thomas are set to take part in the global water initiative Dow Live Earth Run for Water. Etheridge will perform live at the Los Angeles event and Thomas will perform in Atlanta. The Dow Live Earth Run for Water is a series of 6km run/walks, culminating with water education villages and live musical performances. The events will take place in nearly 100 cities across 50 countries on April 18th to raise awareness and funds to help solve the global water crisis.
Madonna Plans Fashion Line With Daughter Madonna has teamed up with her daughter to create a fashion line for young women. The Material Mom is launching her own style empire, called MG Icon, and her first venture will be a junior line for Macy’s. Madonna’s 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes, will help her create the designs. The aptly titled “Material Girl” line will be unveiled in August and include apparel, footwear, handbags and jewelry priced from $12-40. Madonna plans to add beauty and fragrance products to the Material Girl range next year.
Black Eyed Peas Plot Second Leg Of North American Tour The Black Eyed Peas have added a second leg of North American dates to their long-running world tour in support of last year’s chart-topping “The E.N.D.” The summer leg kicks off and ends in Canada, starting with a two-night stand that starts on July 27th in Toronto and ends August 23rd in Edmonton, Alberta. Stops in between include Boston, Chicago and St. Louis. The current leg of the tour continues tonight in Milwaukee and runs through an April 11th show in Vancouver.
Bullet For My Valentine Bringing ‘Fever’ Stateside Bullet For My Valentine will spend a month on the U.S. tour trail this spring in support of their upcoming third studio set, “Fever,” due out April 27th. The band begins the road trip with an April 30th stop in Worcester, Pennsylvania. The tour will visit 20 markets before finishing up with a May 30th performance in Detroit. “Fever’s” first single is “Your Betrayal.”
Linkin Park Offering Live Bootlegs Linkin Park has announced they’ll release 100 live bootlegs recorded at shows between 2007 and 2009. The new series, dubbed “LP Archives: Official Tour Bootlegs,” is available now for Linkin Park fan club members, with a public release set for March 17th. The shows are $9.99 each and the group is offering several special deals, including a “buy 5 get the 6th free” offer.
Timberlake, Prince Rumored For MJ Tribute Justin Timberlake and Prince are reportedly on the list of artists expected to perform at a Michael Jackson tribute show. The event – initiated by Jermaine Jackson – is expected to be held on June 8th at Wembley Arena in London. Shakira, Santana, Usher, Jennifer Hudson and Whitney Houston are among the other acts rumored to be in consideration for the event. The show has reportedly been in the works since last year and was moved to Vienna from London before being postponed.
