Celebrity News
‘Celebrity Apprentice’ Premieres   Last night was the Season Three premiere of “Celebrity Apprentice.” Donald Trump, of course, has already fired somebody. As usual, the teams were divided into men vs. women to kick off the show. Last night’s task was to run a diner for three hours. The winner was determined by which team raised the most money. To keep it interesting, Trump had each team choose the other team’s project manager. The men chose Cyndi Lauper for the women, and Brett Michaels was the women’s choice. But who got fired? Unfortunately for her, comedian Carol Leifer went home because she was on the losing team (the women) and wasn’t much of a team player. The Donald promised that the next task would not be based on who could bring the most money from their deep-pocketed celebrity friends and he was telling the truth. Next week’s episode asks the Rocksolid and Tenacity teams to build a storefront to re-launch Kodak’s famous Kodak Moments campaign.

Peter Graves Dies   Peter Graves, best known for his role as Jim Phelps on the long-running TV series “Mission: Impossible” and later in the “Airplane” movies, died Saturday. His publicist said the actor died of an apparent heart attack at his home. He would have been 84 this week. Graves’ older brother was James Arness, who was best known as Matt Dillon on TV’s “Gunsmoke.”

Crew Refused To Let Tiger’s Wife Ride In Ambulance  The ambulance crew that took Tiger Woods from the scene of his car crash outside his home to the hospital refused to let Tiger’s wife, Elin Nordegren, ride with her husband because they said the incident was a case of domestic violence. The news broke on Friday after the Orlando Sentinel quoted Florida police records. The new information has once again raised the possibility of domestic violence in the November 27th incident. Woods has repeatedly denied any domestic violence.

‘Alice’ Still Reigns  Johnny Depp and Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” easily held on to the No. 1 spot at the box office last weekend, taking in a whopping $62 million. “Alice” has climbed to a $208.6 million total domestically, becoming the first $200 million hit released this year. In its second weekend in theaters, “Alice in Wonderland” pulled ahead of the $206.5 million domestic haul of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” to become the top-grossing of Depp and Burton’s seven films together, including “Edward Scissorhands,” “Sweeney Todd” and “Corpse Bride.” “Alice in Wonderland” added $76 million overseas to bring its international total to $221 million and its worldwide gross to $430 million. “Alice” took in nearly as much as the rest of the top 10 movies combined. Meanwhile, James Cameron’s blockbuster, “Avatar,” remains a strong draw after nearly three months in theaters, taking in $6.6 million over the weekend to raise its domestic total to $730.3 million. The movie has topped $2.6 billion worldwide.

Update: Corey Haim’s Name Found On Drug-Ring Prescription  California officials have revealed that the late Corey Haim’s name has turned up in their investigation of a major drug ring. Though the L.A. coroner’s office has not yet said what killed the 38-year-old actor last week, he had long battled addiction. Authorities found prescription drug bottles in his home – all prescribed by a doctor – but California Attorney General Jerry Brown said Haim’s name was found on a fake prescription for OxyContin uncovered in the ongoing state investigation. Haim’s agent says that he thinks the actor had an adverse reaction to meds, rather than an overdose.

Memorabilia Site Defrays Corey Haim Funeral Costs  Corey Haim’s family solicited donations to fund the late actor’s burial – and a celebrity memorabilia Web site stepped up. Startifacts has announced they are “giving [Judy Haim] $20,000 directly from our own bank account to be used however she sees fit,” a manager for Startifacts.com said. The company will donate proceeds from their Haim-related auctions to help defray burial costs, including transporting his body to Toronto. Startifacts will present the actor’s family a check tomorrow at his funeral, rather than wait until the auction items are sold.

Snow Patrol’s Jaw Dropping News  Apparently Snow Patrol singer Gary Lightbody has been singing with a dislocated jaw for eight years. His condition recently came to light when it became too painful for him to sing. Lightbody revealed that years ago he took a drunken tumble down a flight of stairs at a nightclub in Glasgow. But because he was so drunk and rude to the nursing staff at the hospital, X-rays were never taken and the problem went undetected. Lightbody says he isn’t mad at the nurses, “I am only ashamed of myself.” He went on to explain that a busy schedule, combined with distaste for hospitals, kept the ailment undiagnosed for years. Lightbody is currently receiving treatment and plans to make all scheduled appearances with Snow Patrol this summer.
