Aware is holding their special luncheon at The Hub from noon until 1pm. The 9th Annual Volunteer and Donor Recognition Luncheon is a bit different this year.
“It’s a free event this year;” Aware Executive Director Angelita Gunn said. “At that event we honor volunteers who have worked with us throughout the year. This year we’re honoring Consumers Energy for all their good work. Their Community Caring program in particular. Employees have come to Aware over the years to do landscaping, painting rooms, and other maintenance that we would have to pay money for.”
The luncheon will also recognize two individual volunteers, Gunn said. “We have two individuals Lisa Fairbanks and Andrea Rumler, who have done crisis work. Lisa in particular has done work at the hospital responding 24 hours a day when somebody at the hospital has shown up and needs a forensic kit or support because they’ve been a victim of sexual assault. Andrea Rumler has been doing work with our counseling and crisis advocacy work, helping facilitate support groups and things of that nature.”
The event features Guest Speaker John Willis, who will talk about community and family needs and how Aware can play a role in that dynamic.
