Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The City of Jackson will not be completing any water shutoffs for people who have not paid their water bill this month following a “perfect storm” of technological issues with services utilized by the city.
The announcement was made by City Manager Jonathan Greene during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
City Manager Greene told WKHM that the issues have all occurred within the past few weeks.
There have also been problems with the city’s payment system, Point & Pay, overcharging customers on their water bills.
City leadership says they are working to make sure residents are made whole.
The CodeRED alert system was described as “compromised”, rendering it as unusable to the city.
Jackson used CodeRED as their method of notifying residents that they owed money on their water bill.
City Manager Greene says that he does not believe any major financial data of city residents would have been captured in a potential data breach.
Jackson has plans to move to a different communication service similar to CodeRED in January.
