JPS Appoints New Board of Education Member to Fill Vacancy

JPS Board Appointee

Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Jackson Public Schools (JPS) Board of Education appointed Tabitha Williams to fill the vacant JPS Board of Trustees seat at their December 16 meeting, during which nine candidates were interviewed for the position.

The vacancy on the board was created following the resignation of Board President Shalanda Hunt after she was elected to the Ward 5 Jackson City Council seat in November.

Williams is set to serve a one-year term, and will need to run for reelection in order to have a chance to serve on the board beyond the end of the current term.

She was appointed with the approval of all but one member of the board: Trustee Kesha Hamilton.

JPS officials say they look forward to working with Ms. Williams as she serves the students, families, and community of Jackson Public Schools.

Williams was recommended to be appointed to the vacant spot on the board by Hunt. JPS had a deadline of December 30 to fill the vacancy.
