JATA Included in Michigan Transit Agencies Receiving Grants for New Buses

Jackson Area Transportation Authority

Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced $133 million in grant funding from the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Low or No Emission Grant Program and Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program, as well as matching state funds.

According to MDOT, these grants will help transit agencies upgrade their fleets and facilities to better serve their communities effectively and efficiently.

The complete list from the department of agencies receiving these funds (which can be accessed on the MDOT website or by clicking here) shows that the Jackson Area Transportation Authority (JATA) is receiving a total of $2,371,188 to “receive funding for hybrid buses.”

Of the funds that JATA is receiving, slightly more than $2 million is coming from federal funds, while the state match is for approximately $355,000.

Michigan is compelled by law to provide a portion of the match funds for the grant required by the FTA.

Michigan is able to exceed the base state level statutory requirement and support 100 percent of the local match from the state Comprehensive Transportation Fund.
