Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A five-year lease agreement between Jackson County and Grow Jackson has been approved by county officials in relation to the planned implementation of a farmers market on old Jackson Prison grounds.
Originally, the proposal was for Grow Jackson to pay $1 per year for the first two years of the lease and eight percent of their gross revenue in years three, four, and five.
Jackson County Parks Director Kyle Lewis presented the County Board of Commissioners with two other options they could choose from at the board’s meeting on Tuesday.

The choice that made it to the board was a motion for Grow Jackson to pay two percent of gross revenue in year one, four percent of gross revenue in year two, and eight percent of gross revenue the following three years.
Grow Jackson Founder Jacob Inosencio has expressed his plan to put a Farm Stop at the location and eventually make it a food hub over the course of the lease period.
County Administrator Mike Overton gave his explanation of the reasoning behind the contract structure during Tuesday’s meeting.

Administrator Overton said that he hopes to have Grow Jackson’s success get to the point that eight percent of their gross revenue reaches a substantial amount.
