Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A 13-year-old juvenile has been bound to trial on charges of first-degree premeditated murder and felony firearm in relation to a fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy in the City of Jackson.

Jackson County Prosecutor Kelsey A. Guernsey reports that the order was issued by Family Court Judge Jennifer Kelly following a preliminary examination. The maximum possible penalty for first-degree premeditated murder is life in prison.

The charges that Judge Kelly bound over were the only requested charges based on the evidence that was presented during the 2-day preliminary exam.

The shooting took place in the early morning hours of January 15 of this year at the 500 block of Harris Street.

The juvenile remains lodged at the Jackson County Youth Center.

Based on the sensitive nature of these proceedings, the Prosecutor’s Office says they will not release the names of either the juvenile or the victim.

The Prosecutor’s Office noted that the charges are currently accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
