The sixth confirmed case of the B.1.17 variant has been detected in Michigan, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

It was detected in an adult male from Wayne County.

The five other confirmed cases of the variant were located in Washtenaw County.

The University of Michigan, last Thursday, announced in a press release that three cases of the COVID variant were identified among people involved with the campus.

The new B.1.17 variant, which is believed to have originated in the United Kingdom, is more contagious than COVID-19.
