Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — After a preliminary exam in the courtroom of Jackson County 12th District Court Judge Robert Gaecke on Thursday morning, 19-year-old Antonio Treyvonne Green was bound to the 4th Circuit Court on a charge of Open Murder in relation to the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Jackson woman Mia Sims.
The incident took place on the afternoon of July 27, 2025, just outside of United Peoples Community Church on Carl Breeding Way.
During the exam, the judge heard witness testimony from Embra Banks III, a neighbor who lives near the church who was outside on his porch with some friends as the incident took place.
He testified that his friends pointed out a man wearing grey clothing with something wrapped around his face on the phone. After he put his phone down, he produced a firearm from his waistband and fired multiple shots toward the church before running off according to Banks’ testimony.
Prosecutor Kelsey Guernsey also called numerous individuals that were involved in a FaceTime call with Green during that afternoon to testify, with multiple people testifying that they observed Green wearing grey clothes and a ski mask at one point during the call.
One of the individuals said they were in their car at the time of the incident, and when he was notified that Green had seen him in his car, he then began to look for Green. The rest of the people involved with the FaceTime testified that they were in their homes.
It was testified multiple times that Green had made a note of a female near a black Jeep during the call.
Two of the witnesses said that after Green went outside, he momentarily left the call before returning within one minute to ask the group if they had heard anything, with one of the witnesses inferring he meant gunshots.
Green’s defense attorney, William Amadeo, noted multiple times that none of the individuals involved with the FaceTime call had seen Green commit the crime he is accused of, and that Banks was too far away from the shooting to identify who he had seen shoot at the church.
After hearing testimony from JPD Officer Jason Allison, Green’s attorney argued that their case against Green centered around police hearing from a godmother of one of the people involved with the FaceTime call.
After all testimonies were heard, Prosecutor Guernsey asked the judge to bind Green over on two of the original charges as well as an amended charge of Open Murder (originally 2nd degree murder).
Green’s attorney wanted the case dismissed altogether due to a lack of direct evidence, calling the testimony that was heard “uncredible.”
Judge Gaecke ultimately sided with the prosecution, saying that the circumstantial evidence of Banks seeing a man in grey clothing with a face covering fire a gun and other witnesses describing Green in very similar clothing is enough probable cause to bind the case over to a jury trial.
Future 4th Circuit Court proceedings in this case are scheduled to occur in the courtroom of Judge Susan B. Jordan.
Green’s attorney had previously asked the case be moved outside of Jackson County during a probable cause conference as the victim, Mia Sims, is the niece of City of Jackson Mayor Daniel Mahoney.
