Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — An early morning report of breaking and entering turned to a fatal shooting in the City of Jackson on Sunday.
Officers from the Jackson Police Department (JPD) were originally dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of S. Higby Street for a breaking and entering in progress at around 3:46 a.m. on December 21.
Before officers arrived, authorities received a dispatch update that included information of a shooting victim inside of the residence.
Officers arrived to find a 23-year-old Jackson man who had suffered one gunshot wound to his head. He was transported to Jackson Henry Ford where he was pronounced dead.
The JPD says that an investigation is ongoing to determine cause, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence.
The department says that their understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed.
