While giving a review of the past year in Lansing, State Representative Sarah Lightner discussed the removal of funds from local projects that weren’t spent in the previous year’s budget. Rep. Lightner said that the House Appropriations Committee, who made the move, found instances of fraud that warranted the move.
Rep. Lightner says that she’s confident that legitimate projects will be funded once again down the road.
She also talked about how future projects will not be put in the same position due to transparency measures that were passed last year meant to ensure that lawmakers know exactly what’s going in the budget.
One thing Rep. Lightner was disappointed in was that legislation aimed at cracking down on fentanyl dealers by imposing harsher minimum penalties stalled in the Senate.
