Two senior Jackson County residents were killed Sunday afternoon after their vehicle crashed into a tree in Lenawee County.
Emergency crews were called just after 2 p.m. to U.S. 12 near Wisner Highway in Franklin Township, west of Clinton, for a reported crash involving a tree. Michigan State Police say a gray Chevrolet Trax was traveling eastbound on U.S. 12 when it left the roadway and struck a tree.
The driver, an 85-year-old man from Brooklyn, was transported to ProMedica Hickman Hospital north of Adrian, where he later died. A 77-year-old woman from Jackson, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the driver may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors. The incident remains under investigation.
