SOMERSET TOWNSHIP — A 48-year-old man and his two dogs have died after authorities believe they went through the ice on Lake Somerset over the weekend.
Rescue crews recovered Charles Fausak the Fourth and the two dogs Sunday near the boat launch at Schmidtke Park. Investigators say Fausak, who lived near the lake, went for an evening walk with the dogs Saturday and was reported missing later that night.
Search efforts resumed Sunday morning after poor visibility halted overnight operations. Openings in the ice were later discovered near the launch, where the dogs and Fausak were found in approximately nine feet of water.
An autopsy was scheduled, and authorities say foul play is not suspected. Police are warning the public that changing temperatures have made ice conditions unsafe.
