Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The case against a man accused in the shooting death of a Jackson-area teen continues in court.
Julian Anthony Powell, 22, is charged with second-degree murder and felony firearm in the death of 16-year-old Tae’sean Bartkowiak. Bartkowiak was shot in the head June 4 at a home on Peacock Walk in Blackman Township. He died from his injuries nearly three weeks later.
During a preliminary hearing, testimony revealed Powell and Bartkowiak were longtime friends. A 15-year-old witness said Powell appeared drunk and was poking Bartkowiak with a revolver before it went off.
Police later found Powell through his phone location. He admitted to firing the gun, claiming it was an accident while trying to buy marijuana from Bartkowiak.
The hearing will continue August 27 as prosecutors await the final autopsy report. Powell remains held in the Jackson County Jail on a $1 million bond.
