Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an elderly man was found dead in a river in Parma Saturday afternoon.

Deputies were called to Gardner Road around 3:50 p.m. where they found the man unresponsive in the water. Life-saving efforts were made, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the man may have been trying to free his tractor from the river when he either slipped or suffered a medical emergency, causing him to fall in.

The incident remains under investigation.
