Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Rives Township Board held a special meeting on Thursday evening to interview applicants for and make an appointment of the position of Township Clerk, as well as interview applicants for and hire an Office Administrator. After interviewing two applicants for the position of Township Clerk, Nancy Harris (former Township Collection Site Manager) and Kendra Adams, the Board voted in favor of a motion to appoint Kendra Adams.
Adams had been serving as the Township’s Deputy Treasurer under current Treasurer Carol Schulz. Treasurer Schulz and Trustee Bryce Hammond voted yes, while Trustee Brandon Adams (Kendra Adams’ husband) and Supervisor Jerry Adams (father-in-law) both abstained from voting for the measure to pass 2-0. Adams will hold the position until at least November of 2026, when the position is up for election.
Adams was questioned during her interview by Trustee Hammond about the potential concerns of being on the Board with two of her family members. Adams responded by saying that she has no problems with standing on her own two feet, even if and when that entails disagreeing with Supervisor Adams and Trustee Adams. She added that talk of township business would not be taking place between her and her husband outside of work functions.
The Township also unanimously approved a motion to hire Morgan McNett as Office Administrator following her interview. Another applicant was scheduled to be interviewed, but they did not return the township’s confirmation call, nor did they attend Thursday’s meeting.
