The Jackson County Department of Transportation (JCDOT) has issued an emergency closure of the Benn Road Bridge between Gardner Road and Stepladder Road.

Based on a recent inspection, structural engineers have determined that the bridge must be closed immediately due to excessive and rapid deterioration of the structure. The bridge was originally built in 1939.

JCDOT engineers are in the process of exploring and evaluating cost effective options for replacing the bridge as soon as possible.

A detour route has been posted that advises motorists to use Dearing Road, County Farm Road, N. Parma Road, Devereaux Road, Rogers Road, McDonald Road, and Wellman Road to bypass the bridge closure.
