Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam making the rounds. Several citizens say they’ve received calls from 517-928-5024, with the caller claiming to be “Sheriff Ryan Stevens” or “Lieutenant Stevens.” Authorities confirm no one by that name works for the department.
The caller then demands money or gift cards in exchange for avoiding arrest.
Law enforcement reminds the public that no legitimate officer will ever ask for money over the phone or threaten arrest if payment isn’t made.
If you receive one of these calls, hang up immediately and report it by calling 911. Don’t fall for the scam, and never give out money or personal information.
