Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Sources tell WKHM that former City of Jackson Mayor and State Representative Martin Griffin passed away on the night of July 12, 2025 at the age of 63 after dealing with multiple serious health issues.
Griffin was born and raised in Jackson, graduating from Lumen Christi High School in 1980 and the University of Michigan in 1984. He served as Mayor of the City of Jackson from 1995-2006, as well as from 2011-2013. Between that timespan, Griffin was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the 64th District from January 1, 2007 – January 1, 2011.
While Martin Griffin was Mayor, he focused on economic development, community engagement, and urban revitalization.
He was later appointed as the City of Jackson’s treasurer in 2018, a position he held until his passing. Griffin also worked as a realtor for The Brokerage House.
The former New Leaf Park was recently renamed Griffin Park earlier this year in honor of the Griffin family’s commitment and dedication to public service, with those in mind including Martin, his late father Michael, and his brother John, who is currently the Supervisor of the Summit Township Board of Trustees.
