Voters in Jackson’s Ward 3 have chosen the two candidates who will face off for a City Council seat in November.

Incumbent Angelita Gunn and former councilmember Jeromy Alexander topped Tuesday’s primary, defeating challenger Caleb Blondke. Gunn received 135 votes, Alexander 77, and Blondke 68.

Gunn, a Jackson native and current deputy director with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, says her focus remains on fixing the city’s aging infrastructure and easing the burden of street repair costs on residents.

Alexander, who served Ward 3 from 2017 to 2021, says he wants to return to help manage the city responsibly and focus on budget discipline. A skydiving instructor turned tutor, he brings business and public service experience to the race.

This is the final odd-year election for the City of Jackson, as future city elections will move to even-numbered years.
