Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Versiti Blood Center of Michigan is hosting a special blood drive today in Jackson to honor the victims and heroes of September 11th, 2001. The “Spirit of America” drive will run from 8:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the American 1 Event Center on West Ganson Street.

The event pays tribute to the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the 2001 attacks, while also recognizing the donors who stepped up in the aftermath. Organizers say the drive also addresses the ongoing need for blood in Michigan. Donors will receive a commemorative T-shirt while supplies last.

Appointments can be made online at Versiti.org or by calling 866-642-5663, though walk-ins are also welcome. Versiti, based in Grand Rapids, has provided blood services across Michigan since 1955.
