Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Lumen Christi Titans high school football team is seeking to win a Michigan state title for its fourth consecutive year, and to win a Division 6 title in back-to-back years.

The Titans defeated the Almont Raiders by the score of 25-19 in a contest that required three rounds of overtime to determine at Novi High School in the Division 6 semifinals on November 22.

The Raiders would score the first points of the contest in the second quarter on a touchdown pass from quarterback Blake Lane after the Raiders recovered a fumble to go up 6-0. (Audio from WKHM’s radio broadcast featuring Steve Boyle and Brian Haynes).

In the same quarter, the Titans’ quarterback Benny Gaston would find the end zone to tie the game at six.

In the second half, both teams would score seven points thanks to a Jacob Stewart touchdown run in the third quarter for the Raiders and a Sean Walicki touchdown run for the Titans in the fourth quarter.

In the first overtime period with the score tied at thirteen, both defenses came up with crucial stops.

The Titans made a goal line stand, stopping the Raiders just outside of the end zone on a fourth down play. The Raiders defense followed that with another fumble recovery to end OT1.

The Titans offense scored a touchdown to begin the second overtime, but their 2-point attempt was stopped.

Almont also reached the end zone with another Jacob Stewart touchdown, but the following extra point kick was missed to keep Lumen Christi’s season alive with the score tied at nineteen.

After another defensive stand from the Titans to start the third overtime, Benny Gaston would reach the end zone for his second touchdown of the game to send the Titans to the state finals.

With the Titans’ win, Lumen Christi head coach Herb Brogan moves into sole possession of second place for total wins as a coach in Michigan high school football history.

Lumen Christi will play against Kingsley in Detroit at Ford Field on Friday, November 28, for the Division 6 Michigan state championship.

The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m., with live radio coverage on WKHM scheduled to begin at 3:45 p.m.
