40 Year-old Cold-Case Reopened

Share: Copied!

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Ann Arbor Police have reopened a cold-case homicide dating back nearly 40 years.

The case involves Robert Lee Stuewe, who was reported missing from Ann Arbor in June of 1986. Two months later, a decomposed body was found on a property along Wamplers Lake Road in Norvell Township. An autopsy determined the death was a homicide, but the victim could not be identified at the time.

A decades-old dental records error delayed identification until 2019, when Stuewe was conclusively identified. Investigators are now re-examining evidence and re-interviewing family and friends.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
