The Grass Lake VFW Post 10194 has announced its local winners for this year’s Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen, and Teacher of the Year programs, recognizing students and educators from across Jackson County.
In the Voice of Democracy audio essay contest for high school students, first place went to Christian Warriner of Lumen Christi Catholic School, followed by Ethan Hays of Napoleon Community Schools and Madison Meade of Michigan Center High School.
In the Patriot’s Pen essay contest for middle school students, Grass Lake Community Schools swept the awards, with Mia Hull taking first, Zach Janz second, and Claire Evilsizer third.
The Post also named Dakota Bahlau of Grass Lake Community Schools as Elementary Teacher of the Year.
Scholarships were presented at the VFW’s annual banquet December eighteenth, with first-place winners advancing to the district level.
