Mama Tu-Tu Recognized at City Council Meeting

Share: Copied!

Jackson Mayor Daniel Mahoney has declared January 13 as Wanda Mama Tu-Tu Beavers Day, honoring the longtime community caretaker during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting. Beavers was surprised with the recognition at the start of the meeting, where she was presented with flowers and a one-thousand-dollar donation for the charity of her choice. The crowd rose in applause for Mama Tu-Tu, whose portrait appears on a downtown building. City leaders highlighted her lifelong service to children and families, including organizing a large Easter celebration each year. Her work has united churches, nonprofits, and neighborhoods across Jackson. The recognition comes as Beavers continues serving the community following the loss of her son last year.
