Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A man who has been on the Michigan Sex Offender Registry for decades was sentenced in Jackson County Circuit Court on Wednesday (March 18) morning after he pleaded guilty to two counts of accosting a child for immoral purposes.

62-year-old Coy Clifford Holt (pictured above from the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff) was arrested by authorities with the Jackson Police Department on September 18 of last year, where he has remained lodged at the Jackson County Jail.

Holt was sentenced to serve between 24 to 72 months (2 to 6 years) in the Michigan Department of Corrections with credit for time served between his arrest and now.

During the sentencing hearing, Holt’s defense attorney said he was “caught off guard” when the case first began by what he described as the defendant’s 40-year history of this kind of behavior.

A victim statement was given by the victim’s mother, who said that there has to be repercussions for these kinds of actions, and that it is important for children to know that the law is on their side in situations like this one.

Judge Susan B. Jordan expressed that Holt’s history is concerning, and stated that while it is clear Holt faces cognitive impairments, his behavior is an issue of public safety.

Court records indicate Holt pleaded guilty to the charges after a pretrial hearing in late January.
