State Senator Mike Shirkey spoke to WKHM about the proposals on the ballot this November.
“The marijuana issue is one of the three and that one is a statutory initiative; so it basically puts recreational marijuana into law. The other two are related to how we establish our districts for Congress and for state positions or elected to House and the Senate. The third one is related to things on voting. Whether its secret ballots, or registration to vote, or absentee voting, et cetera. The last two are constitutional amendments.” Shirkey said. He added that the two constitutional amendments would add to the overall word count of the State Constitution. He mentioned that the two amendment proposals totaled 9,000 words. The entirety of the State Constitution is 19,000 words. This caused concern for the Senator, due to lack of legislative oversight.
