The State House has passed a bill to lift the ban on ticket scalping in Michigan, which now moves to the Senate for consideration.

State Rep Tim Kelly said that this is an old law that needs to go, and they’ve worked diligently to compromise in order to get it passed. “This is the third term in a row and this is the most accommodating bill I think that we’ve arrived at as yet to try and appease some of those that have been against or opposed all along.” Rep. Kelly said. “We one of a handful of remaining states. This has been on the books since the 1930’s; so things have changed, and this is the last bastion.”

State Rep Julie Alexander was a “no” in the House vote; but she’s optimistic that the Senate will make some changes that address some of her concerns. “The ability of out-of-state buyers can go online buy up a large portion of tickets and then resell them at the detriment of that venue, so i would like more pieces of security in place to protect consumer and the venue.” she said. “The bill did pass the House, it moves over to the Senate, and hopefully they will put those pieces in place that address my concern. Then it would come back to the House, and I would easily concur with the Senate.” Rep Alexander added.

“If it was as simple as allowing ticket holders to legally resell as an individual their tickets, I don’t have a concern with that, it was the details. I was hoping to have more protective mechanisms in place.”
