In a response to the possible impact COVID-19 could have on the community, City of Jackson is coming together to implement the following emergency response plans and precautionary measures:

  • City employees who have traveled abroad have self-quarantined as a precaution.
  • The City has suspended all non-essential business travel outside of Jackson County for employees until further notice.
  • The City has cancelled all recreation activities, and a closed community center, for the next two weeks.
  • The City will not shut off water service to residents in their water system over the next three weeks to aid hand-washing and overall public health.
  • Jackson City Hall will remain open to continue vital operations of the City, but over the next three weeks, City government will be running with minimum staff to allow employees to care for family and self-isolate.

Mayor Derek Dobies says, “We recognize the threat coronavirus poses to vulnerable populations in our City, and we are taking a strong stance to be prepared as a city.”

Tuesday’s City Council meeting will be used to share emergency plans for City facilities, events and services, along with discussing what other policy measures might be necessary to help residents struggling with this.

The City plans to continue updating residents through the City’s website, social media, and CodeRED mass communication system.
