A Jackson County golf legend has passed away. Mike Hill, a three-time PGA TOUR winner and dominant force on the PGA TOUR Champions circuit, died Monday at the age of 86 at the University of Michigan Hospital.

Hill was a Jackson native who got his start as a caddie at the Jackson Country Club before playing at Arizona State and serving in the U.S. Air Force. He turned pro in 1967 and picked up three TOUR wins in the ’70s. But it was after age 50 that Hill really made his mark—winning 18 times on the senior tour, leading the money list in 1991, and forming a winning duo with Lee Trevino in multiple Legends of Golf events.

Off the course, Hill helped run Hills’ Heart of the Lakes Golf Course in Brooklyn, where he remained a beloved mentor and presence. Staff there say they’re heartbroken, calling Hill their leader and inspiration—and promise to honor his legacy every day.
