Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — An active shooter scare at Chelsea Hospital turned out to be a false alarm — and a frustrated patient.

Police responded around 8:50 p.m. on May 21 after a 911 call reported a shooter at the hospital. But when officers arrived, they quickly confirmed there was no threat and no shooting had occurred.

Police say the call came from a 74-year-old Tecumseh man who was still in the hospital at the time. He admitted to making the false report, telling officers he was upset with the care he was receiving and wanted a quick police response.

Chelsea Police Chief Kevin Kazyak said the man wasn’t arrested because he was still under medical care. However, the department is requesting criminal charges for making a false report from the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.
