Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Attorney General Dana Nessel is looking to intervene with Consumers Energy’s latest attempt to hike rates.

In March, Consumers announced its intention to hike the rates. The company is seeking an additional $436 million which would take effect in May 2026 if approved. This would mark the largest electric rate hike in decades.

Also back in March, the company’s $154 million rate hike was approved. That hike took effect in April. Monday, Nessel filed a notice of intervention to Consumers latest rate hike request.
