Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The South MLK Drive construction project is nearing the end of its first phase according to City of Jackson leadership. A Ward 1 neighborhood meeting was held last week to discuss the progress, and City Manager Jonathan Greene told WKHM about the general timeline for further work.
The City has also launched an initiative to help homes in the city look nicer with the Curb Appeal Program, providing financial assistance to qualified applicants with minor front-of-home projects.
Both City officials and development group Collier Gibson hoped to begin construction on the Hayes Hotel this summer, with Collier Gibson purchasing the building earlier this year.
City Manager Greene says the two parties remain in consistent communication, and that the holdup is mainly centered on promised MEDC funds needing to get to Collier Gibson before they can begin their work.
Court records show that Collier Gibson sued J. Jeffers & Co., the previous developer with the Hayes Hotel, on July 3 for still having a claim of interest on the property.
