Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The City of Jackson will be participating in National Night Out, a program that aims to connect local public safety officials with their communities. The event is planned for Tuesday, August 5 at Loomis Park from 6 to 8 p.m.

A total of 50 free backpacks will be given away thanks to a donation from Meijer: 25 for grades 1-4, and 25 for grades 5-7 (limit 1 per family).

Residents can meet with local police officers and firefighters, as well as get an up close look at patrol cars, fire trucks, and ambulances. Games, food, and local vendors will also be featured.

This event is organized by the Jackson Police Department and the City’s Group Violence Intervention Program.
