Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Donations are being collected to help cover funeral expenses for 18-year-old Mia Amari Sims, the Jackson teen who was fatally shot outside her church late last month.

An online memorial page through Ever Loved has raised over $7,000 as of this Tuesday morning.

Sims was shot on Sunday, July 27, in the 1500 block of Carl Breeding Way — just steps from the United Peoples Community Church while retrieving something from her car. Jackson Police say the investigation is ongoing and have not confirmed whether she was the intended target.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Burden & Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home. A family hour is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Lily Baptist Church, with burial at Woodland Cemetery. The service will be live streamed on the United Peoples Community Church YouTube channel.

Sims had just graduated from Jackson High and turned 18 one week before the shooting.

Sim’s obituary can be found here.
