Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Back to School Blast Community Resource Fair is happening on Friday afternoon (July 25) from 3 p.m. until seven o’clock at the American 1 Event Center located on Ganson Street.
Volunteers have been getting together over the past couple of weeks to prepare the items which include 1,400+ backpacks filled with school supplies, 3,000+ new and gently used books, 1,400+ 4-pair bundles of socks, and 2,500+ lunches. All of those items will be handed out for free.
There will also be 65 community organizations joining the event with tables of their own to give out even more school supplies, along with information about the products and services they provide to students and their families.
Candy Poleski, Chair of the Back to School Blast, spoke about how students can have as good of a time as possible at the event and what else the County Fairgrounds will have going on.
“When the doors open at 3:00pm we recommend that students go to backpack distribution first so they can put their treasures from community organizations inside. There will also be a fire truck, police car and ambulance to explore; on-sight vision, dental and hearing screenings; live music; car seat safety checks; and weather providing, games and much more!” Poleski said.
