Hillsdale, Mich. (WKHM) — A Hillsdale man has pleaded guilty to making threats that forced the closure of an entire school district earlier this year.
Kevin Noah Minder admitted in court to threatening violence with a firearm against students or staff on school grounds. The 29-year-old entered the plea April 28 in Hillsdale County Circuit Court.
Prosecutors say the incident began January 27, when a threatening voicemail was left for a staff member at Gier Elementary. The caller claimed to know the staffer’s address and made violent threats toward the school.
Authorities identified Minder as the suspect, but he wasn’t immediately found. Out of caution, Hillsdale Community Schools shut down for two days. Minder was later arrested in Ohio and remains in jail on $25,000 bond.
He faces up to 10 years in prison and will be sentenced June 9.
Hillsdale Schools serves about 1,200 students across five buildings.
