Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Jackson Hispanic Heritage Festival has been cancelled for 2025. The Festival Committee announced the decision on social media, and they cited the “current political climate” that they say challenges the safety, unity, and celebratory spirit the festival is meant to foster.
They say the continuation of the event in 2025 would compromise the integrity and security of their goal to uplift and honor Hispanic / Latino culture, and provide a welcoming space for all who attend. Festival organizers have also said that the Jackson County Sheriff Office’s decision to enter into the 287(g) program with I.C.E. was a factor.
According to their statement, the Committee is reflecting on other ways they can serve and uplift their community in meaningful ways to provide opportunities to connect, educate, and support.
