Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A Jackson-area corrections officer has been sentenced to jail time and probation after admitting to smuggling drugs into the prison where he worked.
Joshua Michael Evans, 49, will serve 90 days in jail followed by two years of probation, according to court records from Jackson County Circuit Court.
Evans pleaded guilty in April to delivering a controlled substance — Suboxone — a drug used to treat opioid addiction. In return, a second felony charge for bringing contraband into a prison was dropped.
Investigators say Evans was caught with over 150 Suboxone strips last July inside the visiting area of Parnall Correctional Facility north of Jackson. A tip from another staff member led to the bust.
The Michigan Attorney General’s Office prosecuted the case. As of Monday, Evans remains on unpaid suspension from the Department of Corrections.
