Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — During Tuesday evening’s Jackson City Council meeting, councilmembers unanimously agreed to approve the purchase and installation of a new steam boiler in the Wastewater Treatment Plant maintenance garage.

According to a memo by Director of Public Works Mike Osborn, the failure of the current boiler that was installed in the early 1990’s is imminent, and repairs would not extend nor sustain its lifespan.

City Manager Jonathan Greene says that the investment is important for maintaining the plant.

The expected cost to the city is around $147,000 to go to Adrian Mechanical Services for the purchase and installation.

City Manager Greene gave an update on street construction within the city in relation to the expected shutdowns of the state and federal governments during the meeting, saying that he believes the work will continue as planned.

City Council also approved slightly amending the city’s parking ordinances, extended a contract for snow removal, and heard a presentation from Consumers Energy Assistance Outreach Consultant Audrey Dean.
