Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — With water and sewer rates receiving a $33 increase per quarterly bill in the City of Jackson, City Council approved the creation of a Water Relief Fund that citizens in need can use.

City Manager Jonathan Greene says the vote is simply a first step as the city considers how to implement the fund.

The Council also officially honored the life and legacy of the late Martin “Marty” Griffin for his commitment to Jackson, distinguished public service, and the impact his service had on the community.

A resolution for the Michigan Theatre to buy land located at 110 W Michigan Ave. was approved, with Executive Director Steve Tucker detailing his vision for the lot.

The City approved the purchase of 2,430 devices that will allow water / sewer meters to be read remotely, helping with task efficiency and increasing progress toward potentially billing them monthly rather than quarterly.

The full City Council meeting is available to view on the City’s YouTube page and website.
