Jackson, Mich. (WKHM, Marc W. Daly) — A Jackson County man is behind bars, accused of killing his mother and neighbor.

Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kelsey Guernsey comments on the case:

40-year-old Roger Schweda was arraigned Monday on two counts of Open Murder and two counts of Felony Firearm. The charges stem from Saturday’s deaths of 57-year-old Thomas Farnsworth and 70-year-old Shari Schweda.

Farnsworth had called police for a welfare check after receiving a voicemail from Schweda saying he couldn’t go inside his home because his mother was dead. Farnsworth was on the phone with police outside the residence when a gunshot was heard. Officers later found Farnsworth dead in the driveway and Shari Schweda deceased in her bedroom, described by police as a “gruseome scene.”

Schweda is being held without bond, and a competency exam has been ordered. His next court date is January 3.
