Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Jackson County Prosecutor Kelsey Guernsey reports that 19 different young adults, all convicted of First Degree Homicide, will need to be resentenced due to recent law changes.
In 2024, the Michigan Supreme Court ruled that all 18-year-olds who were convicted of First Degree Homicide must have their cases reviewed and resentenced. Earlier this year, the Michigan Supreme Court expanded that to also include 19 and 20-year-olds.
There are now hundreds of resentencing efforts that will need to occur within the state of Michigan. In Jackson County, there are reportedly 19 to complete.
The following names are from the Prosecutor’s Office’s list of defendants who are entitled to a resentencing:
- Kyle Anderson
- Daniel Wolfe
- Rex Pitts
- Geoffrey Burroughs
- William Scott
- Timothy Tingley
- Brenton Mossman
- Naim Abdur Rasheed
- Bill Leonard
- Philip Thompson
- Roy Seger
- Chad Vanwaagoner
- Anthony Gelia
- Dreshawn Glaspie
- Jymario Dooley
- Jimmy Griffin
- Charles Selby
- Sean Taylor
- Prentice Watkins
