Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — In Jackson, a local man is behind bars after a planned meeting with a minor turned out to be a police sting operation.
51-year-old Steven James Lally was arrested May 27 at Kiwanis Park. Jackson Deputy Police Chief Sergio Garcia reports Lally believed he was meeting a 13-year-old girl he’d contacted online.
However, a child advocacy group had been posing as the teen. Authorities say Lally exchanged illicit photos and videos with the decoy. The advocacy group then tipped off police when Lally arranged to meet at the park, providing evidence of his intent to solicit sex from a minor.
Officers arrested Lally at the park without incident. A subsequent search of his home uncovered additional evidence and electronic devices.
Lally faces multiple charges, including accosting a child for immoral purposes, using a computer to commit a crime, and possession of methamphetamine. He remains in the Jackson County Jail on a quarter-million dollar bond. His next court hearing is set for June 6.
