Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — During the City of Jackson Council meeting on Tuesday (October 14), Mayor Daniel Mahoney announced that he does not plan on running for reelection in 2026.
Mayor Mahoney also clarified that he will not be running for any elected position next year.
The mayor said that the decision was fueled by his desire to have his family be his first priority when it comes to how he spends his time.
Mayor Mahoney said that while he knows that he will be done at the end of this term, that is no reason to expect him to perform as a “lame duck” mayor.
Daniel Mahoney has been serving as the Mayor of Jackson since 2021 as the City’s first African-American Mayor, and was a Jackson County Commissioner from 2014 to 2021.
