Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Jackson Public Schools has announced the appointment of Chris Hoover as the district’s new Athletic Director. A 1991 graduate of Jackson High School, Mr. Hoover returns to his alma mater with more than 30 years of experience in education and coaching. After earning his undergraduate degree from Olivet College and completing graduate studies at Eastern Michigan University, Mr. Hoover began his career with Jackson Public Schools, where he has coached football, wrestling, and baseball.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Hoover is deeply connected to the Jackson community. He and his wife of 20 years, Kelli Hoover, have raised two sons, Colin and Gabe, who both graduated from Jackson High School.

“Returning to Jackson Public Schools as Athletic Director is more than a professional milestone—it’s personal,” said Mr. Hoover. “As a proud alumnus, teacher, and coach who has spent the past 30 years helping young people grow both on and off the field, I am honored to give back to the community that helped shape me. I’m committed to building strong programs that reflect the heart, pride, and potential of Jackson.”

Jeremy Patterson, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Curriculum, expressed confidence in Mr. Hoover’s leadership.

“Mr. Hoover’s attention to detail and systems-based approach to athletics will undoubtedly foster a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement. Under his guidance, JPS student-athletes have already benefited from a tradition of excellence—state championships, All-State recognition, academic honors, and the lifelong bonds formed through teamwork. The future of Viking Athletics is bright, and we look forward to Mr. Hoover continuing that legacy as District Director of Athletics.”
