Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Jackson Public Schools Board of Education is scheduled to vote on a motion to remove Board Vice President Derek Dobies at their meeting on Tuesday. The Board held a special meeting on June 5 to remove language from the new Superintendent Jeremy Patterson’s contract that was allegedly inserted by VP Dobies without a disclosure to the board.
According to a letter to the Board from their legal counsel, the language would financially benefit a group that is affiliated with the AFL-CIO of Michigan, of which Dobies is Chief of Staff, and that Dobies voting on the approval of the Superintendent’s contract created a conflict of interest issue.
The Board’s meeting will follow a public hearing on the district’s proposed budget for 2025/26, the motion “Removal of Vice President from the Board of Education” is listed as an action item in the agenda.
