Saturday, October 27th, 2018, K-105.3 (WKHM-FM) enlisted the help of the Youth Advisory Committee, a youth-focused and youth-administered group with the Jackson Community Foundation, to help clean up the leaves that have fallen on the yards of some Jackson residents in honor of National Make a Difference Day. The homes we visited were chosen by the Jackson County Department on Aging and consisted of elderly and homebound residents.

These youth volunteers were joined by the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) Counselor Cindy Bellew, YAC Volunteer Kelly Froedtert; and K-105.3 staff: Ashley Smith, Doug Hanson, and on-air personality J-Rod. Together these groups had a lot of fun but more importantly made a difference in our community by taking an afternoon out of their busy lives to help those who could not help themselves.

Bellew said, “The Youth Advisory Committee of the Jackson Community Foundation were honored to participate in such a worthwhile event. One of our goals is to encourage youth philanthropy in our community and this was a perfect fit!”

Special thanks go out to event sponsor Extreme Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram for providing a meetup space and vehicles to transport the volunteers and equipment, as well as Stihl for providing backpack leaf blowers to make the volunteers’ jobs a little easier. Lunch for the volunteers was generously donated by Klavon’s, another great community partner. Emmons Service generously offered to dispose of leaf bags in areas where leaf pick-up is not offered.
